Composite Fillings

In order to provide the best oral health for each patient, several factors must be considered when choosing a filling. These factors influence the durability and performance of the restoration and must be considered by Dr. Kelson in each case. These include: the patients oral health; how and where the restoration is place; the biting load the tooth will have to bear; and the size of the cavity. All of these factors are considered when making a decision about what material and method is best for the patient.

Composite Fillings:

The material is actually a mixture of glass or quartz in a resin medium which allows for a more natural, tooth colored filling. Composite fillings provide good strength to chewing forces and are most likely the best option for small to medium size restorations. Because of the bonding ability, more conservative restorations than an amalgam filling are made, leaving more natural tooth structure and strength intact.
